Phase II Proposal update

Originally for Phase II, I was planning on working with Individuals at Risk. I am still interested in this topic, but as I began working and researching on student activists (Majid Tavakkoli and Jabbar Savalan) I was somewhat distracted by ideas for projects working with the campaign to abolish the death penalty.

In my Phase I critique, I did not talk too much about the concepts of each piece. I wanted the critique to be focused more on the  materials exploration of ink. I wanted feedback on the use of ink, instead of focusing on the concept behind each piece. Most of my Phase I work did go along with the Campaign to Abolish the Death Penalty, more specifically focusing on Troy Davis' case. I worked with Troy's portrait, the candle from the vigil on September 21, the idea of candle wax dripping throughout the night, and quotes involving Troy's case. I want to continue working with these topics, because I'm very passionate about this campaign. Troy's story shed light on this campaign and the many other Troy Davises.

For Phase II, I want to continue working with ink, and combining ink with other media. I will use AI case information and the teach-in documents in my research. I will refer to photos that I took from the Vigils on September 19 and 21, as well as other resources.

Phase II Proposal, Individuals at Risk

For phase II, I want to focus on Individuals at Risk; more specifically, I wanted to focus on artists and student activists at risk. I chose two student activists, two journalists, and two filmmakers to focus on:

Majid Tavakkoli, student leader from Iran
Jabbar Savalan, student activist from Azerbaijan
Shi Tao, journalist from China
Ebrima Manneh, journalist from Gambia
Jafar Panahi, filmmaker from Iran
Dhondup Wanchen, filmmaker from Tibet

In phase II, I want to continue to explore with using ink. I also want to explore using ink with other media. I plan to share these six stories visually, as well as represent their stories with text, somehow incorporated into drawings or in a book form.
